Found this old school van in Woodside and was able to capture it on some 4x5 film
We took a drive to Santa Cruz to get out of the house and to get some fabric to make shirts (topic for another post). Of course, I had to take a camera with me on a nice, sunny day in California.
The Mamiya 7 is a great camera with a super sharp lens and I’m a big fan of Kodak Tmax 400. Here’s on of my favorite shots I’ve taken with this combo
I had the day off on my birthday so I decided to take a drive down Hwy 1 and go through a roll of Kodak Tri-X 400. I shot it all at box speed with no filter attached to the lens although I wonder how different the results would be if I pushed the film to 1600 and had a red filter. Anyway I had a couple of good results that I’ll show here. I think I’m going to experiment with pushing film for a bit to see if I like the results.
I was all excited to shoot on my day off in an effort to avoid G.A.S. but the weather is poor and I was really uninspired so I ended up experimenting with using a red filter and shooting black and white. I also just went ahead an ran through a roll of Ilford XP2 just so I could get some medium format in. I’m sure I won’t like any of the shots but hey that’s life and in the end it’s just film and it’s all for fun.
Here’s a shot from a few weeks back taken on my father in law’s Minolta SRT 101 which was hidden in his garage shot on Kodak 400 Tri-X 400 at box speed. Not to shabby for a camera that’s just been sitting around for like 15-20 years.

I had to get out of the house today as a way of taking a break from building Ikea furniture. I took this time to get some shots in on what was otherwise a very chilly (although normal for this time of year) day in San Francisco. I’m pretty pleased with the results. I didn’t do any heavy handed editing in Lightroom, but the photos aren’t as sharp as they have been in the past. The light was pretty low and I didn’t have a tripod so I’m sure there was some camera shake involved. Anyway, it’s all about the process and getting plenty of practice. I’m enjoying this as a way to get out of the house and not think about any of the drama that has been 2018. Here’s to 2019 bringing more photos, more use to this site, and definitely a new hobby for myself. Cheers.
I think I like this less vivid shot the most.
We always get a portrait practice shot in when we take the cameras out.
I was happy catching the reflection in the canal.
I’m doing myself to get more active with photography since I have a nice camera and it deserves to be used. Additionally, since I forgot to cancel my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, I may as well put in a least a year’s worth of Lightroom and Photoshop use. So today I went out an took a walk around the neighborhood and snapped of a few pics and played around with them in Lightroom. Anyone else around here learning photography?
More to come.
Pushing myself to get better at art. I did my first still life pastel art of some apples. I have a lot to learn, but I'm not even mad at this result.
I have a lot to learn but that's part of the fun I guess.
Peace

A day around Dogpatch followed by some learning in Photoshop
I'm obviously still new at this, but more to come.

These are just some experiments learning infrared photography. I probably need to go to an open field to get a better effect and definitely need to learn a little more Lightroom and Photoshop
This was my first attempt at making a time lapse video. I've been watching a lot of Breaking Bad lately and they do a lot of time lapse of cloud movement in between scenes. Of course, the opening sequence of House of Cards is probably the most recognizable current use of the technique. I realized about halfway between the shoot that my camera's autofocus was on which is why the first 15 sec shakes and then towards the end the camera more stable.
Noted!
I'm going to keep making videos like this as I think it's a cool technique in film. Of course, I still have to shoot my first show. I'm working on it.
Oh yeah. I shot it off my balcony in the city. I realize it would be much better if I did it in the country or desert.
I did some experimenting today with the camera. As with any new piece of equipment, you gotta put it to the test before you take it into the field. I got a fish eye lens from BorrowLenses.com just to have some fun with and actually realized it would look real cool inside a venue. I just need to find my first show to shoot.
Again, nothing professional, just learning day by day.
This is my first post in what I'm calling a new journey for my artistic side. I dabble in a little bit of everything, whether it's music, writing, and now a little bit of photography. So I whipped out my camera and a newly purchased Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens and took a portrait of our dog. Yes, she's a bit camera shy and I did no lighting setup. This was more than anything just an experiment shot, although, it turned out to be one of the best pictures of our dog we've ever taken.
Anyway. I think it's a good start. As with anything....practice. I hope to go to some indie rock / hip hop shows around the Bay Area and shoot some musicians and when I do, I'll definitely post.
